Celebrate Pride with pride in Berlin

June 1, 2023 by Brieann Pasko Leave a Comment

Happy Pride Month! Let’s talk about how to celebrate Pride with pride in Berlin. We at Red Tape collected some info to help ourselves and you celebrate Pride by supporting its community.

*in Germany Pride is often called CSD or Christopher Street Day – read about that here.

Donate

Buying a rainbow graphic T is great – but why not pair it with a donation that will directly support the community? Here are just a few suggestions:

The Trevor Project – suicide prevention chat 24/7 – available in English and soon Spanish

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation – working to change the institutions of daily life for LGBTQ+ people

LSVD – Lesbian and Gay Association of Germany – an advocacy group for people in Germany

MILES (Centre for Migrants, Lesbians and Gays) Project* – Berlin LSVD office provides help to LGBT people with migrant backgrounds

Volunteer

Donating your time and energy is also essential! The more people to delegate the tasks to, the less stress and more fun for everyone! Last year I got to help prep one of the parade trucks for Berlin CSD and it was dirty work but well worth it ☺️. There are also SO MANY jobs leading up to and on the day of the event that need happy volunteers – there’s bound to be something for you!

Berlin CSD – 22 JULY 2023 – volunteer or donate

Be a patron

Small businesses have it hard enough these days – show some extra love to those in the community by giving them your business. Here are just a few off the top of our heads – please comment with additions!

La BarBer – Queer Barbershop/Hairdresser. This place is really special – I recently did a big chop and decided to get a curly mohawk from one of the owners, Shae. They did a fabulous job and the vibe there is super warm and lovely. Check out the IG to see the work and different stylists.

Wax Wrap Berlin – super earth-friendly reusable packaging! Owners Chelsea and Anna make them right here in Kreuzberg. They even show you how to DIY!

Natalia Vasyutina from Ordinglich GmbH is an independent insurance broker / pension advisor / financial advisor in Berlin. Schedule a get-to-know-you meeting with Natalia to find out more.

Juliane Linke from Legal Links is a fantastic immigration lawyer with a practice in Kreuzberg. There are four lawyers working there, all of whom speak English and are passionate about immigration law.

You can even check out some of our clients:

Rajiv Desai (He/Him) is an experienced Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) consultant, practitioner and advisor, and serves clients worldwide including Berlin.

Cyan – Pilates/Somatic Coaching/Yoga Nidra/Meditation

Join in the fun

Berlin is obviously where it’s at 🙃 and has a variety of events going on over the summer. But if you don’t live in our wonderful city or if you feel like travelling, check out dates for Pride or CSD celebrations all over Germany.

Hope this post sparks some new and lovely ideas and experiences for you during Pride this summer.
Please comment with any additions you may have to our list!

And if you ever need an interpreter or translator who helps navigate German with your desired pronouns – we’ve got you covered. Maybe that’ll be my next blog, navigating pronouns and gendered words auf Deutsch…
