hi kathleen, this was so so helpful. i can’t thank you enough.
one question: i just finished filling out the form, and clicked the “send and print” button, but then there wasn’t an option to print. it brought me to a very generic landing page saying that my application had been submitted, but with no option to print. there wasn’t a confirmation number and i haven’t gotten a confirmation email either — have you done yours yet? or have you heard that that’s normal? i just want to make sure that it actually got submitted…
    thanks!

I have heard that from other people, too. It’s normal and it did get submitted, but sadly you have no proof of the answers you wrote on the form!
Oh well. The only evidence you’ll get that it worked and was approved is a deposit into your bank account.
      Cheers
      Kathleen

    Hi Kathleen,

Many thanks for this extremely helpful video. I was wondering if you could shed some light on the following questions?

I am now quite far along in the queue to apply for the grant, and expect that it will be my turn tomorrow or the day after, so it would be really helpful to get a quick response if at all possible!

    1. I originally applied to be a freelancer in October 2019. However, the Finanzamt never processed my application (despite me calling and emailing repeatedly). Eventually, I applied through a tax advisor in February 2020, and received my steuernummer.
I began my freelance work in October 2019, but I didn’t send any invoices or receive any payments from clients until I had successfully registered as a freelancer and been sent my Steuernummer in February 2020. My question is: should I put the October 2019 date (when I first tried to register as a freelancer, and began my freelance work) or the February 2020 date (when I received my Steuernummer) as the Gründungsdatum?

    2. I have heard that only people who registered to be freelancers before the end of 2019 are eligible, do you know if this is true?

    3. I work in childcare. Some of my families cancelled bookings themselves, and I myself decided to discontinue work with families who hadn’t cancelled, as it would be irresponsible to continue working in such close quarters with other people at this time (you can’t change a nappy without physical contact!). Which of the reasons for liquidation would you recommend for this? I’m guessing the third as I don’t have contracts with any of these families.

Many many thanks for any help you can offer.

    Best wishes,

    N

      Good morning Nancy!

      1. This will depend on the date your tax advisor put on your form when they submitted it. The tax advisor can backdate the form if you started earlier (e.g. Oct 2019) and probably should have, but they might also have been trying to save you the headache of having to lodge a 2019 profit and loss by putting a 2020 date as the date you established. Do you have access to the form?

If you don’t have access to that information and you can’t reach your Steuerberater, put Oct 2019 and hope that’s what the tax advisor put on the form.

      2. I have also heard this on the grapevine but have no conclusive proof as yet of its accuracy.

      3. The third one, yep.

      Cheers
      Kathleen

    Hi Kathleen,

    Good Morning.

I am looking forward to apply, the federal government’s Corona grant for freelancers but I am not sure if I am eligible for it. So here is my situation:
I completed my masters here in Berlin from a private Uni in July 2019, It was a 2 years course so I had a chance to work as an intern for a year (June 2018 – June 2019). Since then I am unemployed and looking for work. I am currently on a Job Seeker Visa, I registered myself as a freelancer (I have my freelancer Steuer ID) from Finanzeamt in December 2019. Had some hard experiences from clients who agreed for the project but stepped back during invoicing! So from March 2020 onwards I planned to look for a fulltime job as its a better approach from my perspective.
So my question is that am I eligible for any type of grant as hiring is frozen since March and I am still having a hard time paying my basic utilities?

    Thanks in advance

      Hi Ankit,

Prerequisite is that your business was active on 11.03.2020 or before that, and that self-employment was your main occupation. One red flag I see is that your job seeker visa doesn’t actually give you permission to be self-employed. All the same, I don’t know whether that would be a problem for the IBB. Hope you managed to get your application in over the long weekend. Good luck! Kathleen
