Today we’re celebrating parents… and kids… and milk

May 31, 2021 by Kathleen Parker Leave a Comment

celebrating parents and kids

Parents deserve some appreciation. Especially right now. Parents’ Day draws attention to the importance of parents and their role in society. Since most of us at Red Tape Translation are parents juggling our work projects with school pickups, we’re taking a moment to give ourselves – and all of our clients who are parents – a serious pat on the back.

World Parents’ Day was adopted by the UN in 2012 “to recognize and honor the primary responsibility of parents for the upbringing and protection of children.” OK, we’re sold. But wait, what? It’s Children’s Day today as well?

Yes, it turns out that Kindertag has long been celebrated around the world on 1st June. Well, mostly. Actually, East and West Germany can’t agree on a date. While East Germany has always celebrated the 1st June as Internationaler Kindertag, there’s also Universal Children’s Day (Weltkindertag) on September 20th, which seems to be West Germany’s version of Kindertag.

While some parents in Germany have absolutely no idea Children’s Day and Parents’ Day exist, others are ready to decorate the living room with balloons and streamers and give their children special presents. Of course, whether your kids return the favour in honour of Parents’ Day remains to be seen. But we love ’em anyway.

Since it’s probably unlikely your children acknowledged Parents’ Day today, we’ll honour all you mums and dads instead. Get 15% off the cost of Life Admin and coaching services if you’re a parent – use the Coupon code PARENTINGWIN to apply the discount.

P.S. 1 June is also World Milk Day. Yay for milk!
