Golden late summer sunsets, all sorts of folks chilling on the banks of the Spree … it’s time to catch a glimpse of the city from the water. I’ve sorted my top 5 picks for Spree Cruises in Berlin.
How to decide…
I do not care for typical tourist activities, with the exception of a boat tour. I have always wanted to do a boat tour in Berlin. It seems a beautiful way to view the city.
Although most boat tours include audio guides – some in English, others exclusively in German -, I’ve ignored them as a criteria for the most part – I’m there for the late summer vibes and the wind in my hair.
Food and drinks seem to be available for purchase on all boats, but are not included in any of the ticket options on the Visit Berlin website. Do check out that website if you don’t care for any of the following 5 suggestions. ☺️
Let’s start with SOLAR power – I love this.
Not only is it more sustainable, but it’s also more relaxing! Why? It’s quieter. The 3 options I found were all at least 2hrs in duration and for ~25 Euro.
Catamaran from East-Side-Gallery to the Island of Youth
Wed – Sun from Jannowitzbrücke, departing at 11:30am and 2pm
Sightseeing Lounge Boat*
Saturdays from Mitte, departing at 1:30pm and 5:30pm
Romantic Moonlight Cruise* – (only a few tickets left for 2023!)
Saturdays from Mitte departing at 9:30pm – adults only!
*option for VIP upgrade includes 1 glass of wine + cheese plate and priority access to panorama area for 40 euros.
Ahhh the evening air…
There was something super enticing about the evening cruises (of which there are only 3, including the aforementioned Romantic Moonlight Cruise). The weather is cooler, the people are calmer. I would even assume the types of people on these are more my speed. So here are two non-romantic (unless you want them to be) evening tours that caught my eye. They aren’t solar-powered, but they both sounded chill and are ˜28 euro for over 2 hrs.
Evening tour of popular sights and famous buildings in Mitte
Wed – Sat from Friedrichstaße, departing at 6:30 pm
Evening trip along the Spree, the Berlin-Spandauer Canal and Westhafen Canal
Fri / Sat from Charlottenburger Ufer, departing at 6:15pm, stopover at Friedrichstraße at 7:15pm
Thinking ahead to September – Beer Week 2023
Beer Week 2023 is Sep 1-10 and the Brews Cruises are already selling out. So if you’re a beer enthusiast, act now! Tickets include all-you-can-taste beers, DJs and more. Check out the different cruises here – Sep 2nd and 3rd only.
Rather splash around in the water yourself than be trapped on a boat? You need a Sommermehrfachkarte! Read more about it and outdoor swimming in Berlin here.
